I was out and about today so I figured, “Hey, I’m sure someone out there would be interested in where I’m located or at least know more about San Francisco, right?” (Or not.) But since I was out already, why not take some pictures for my blog since I’m waiting on the next figurine review anyway. Sorry for the low-quality pictures as this was all last minute and all I had was my cell phone.
Today, I ventured out to the heart of San Francisco. It’s Market street, right next to the famous City Hall. It was especially nice today as it wasn’t too cold and Sundays are Farmers’ Market day. Farmers’ Day is where all the fresh produce is, they’re not expensive either. I usually don’t go there but it’s fun when you’re bored and looking for something fresh to eat and not that gluteness junk we have around here like Burger King or Carl’s Jr.

There’s all little tents like this that lines up the entire plaza. It’s also right outside of my school so I can get some fresh fruits and vegetables on Wednesdays (They’re open Wednesday and Sundays, only). I never liked large fruits as they get messy on the go like Peaches or Apples but I can enjoy them if I’m just sitting down. I’m not a big fan of the Oranges and such either because again, they get all over the place and I grew up with them so I’m pretty much sick of it.

Anyways, even ranting from me. My favorite part is walking by the back with the live chickens and nearly dead fish. There’s a ton of seagulls that glares at the fish but can never get close. This always reminds me of home back in Hong Kong, these markets were no special thing and were in back alleyways or some hidden street. I’ll never forget going out with my mother to buy chicken and we’d just watch them snap the chicken’s neck apart.

I bought these today for my mother, they were a little expensive being $2.00 a pound but I thought they were worth it. I went around the time they were going to close so I heard a lot of shouting, “$1.00 per pound or $1.00 per bag!” But all the good stuff were gone or things I didn’t know how to cook. It was quite refreshing for me to go and see the market again, I haven’t visited it since… many a month ago. During the days with no market, the plaza is covered with crack-addicts and hobos.
Speaking of crack-addicts, this is my school. There’s a lot of amazing artists here, they all love to draw or design, something like that. We’ve got short, tall, white, black, addicts, otakus, just… all types of people. Nevertheless, I believe we’re a special, unique group of people and no other school can be quite like us.

Right outside of the school is the train Civic Center Muni train station. There’s always someone performing here for money. Usually of musical instruments but sometimes there are jugglers or even one that plays a broken violin with a chicken femur. I think he’s on something everyday. Our train stations are all underground and there are stops above ground. We also have a bus system also part of the Muni, but I rarely use it nowadays.
This is top view, looking into the station.

Inside station, paid area.

The train, and the people inside. Let’s take the train together to the next stop, which is only 3-4 blocks away but is covered with crack-addicts, so let’s use the train.

Here we are, at Powell Station. This is the heart of the shopping area in San Francisco. Well, this is where the tourists go anyway. I’ll be a tourist for all of you just for today and take pictures, laughing at myself the way I’d to the tourists. This picture right here is known as the turn around for the cable cars, it’s ran manually so the cable car can, well, turn around.

On our way to my next destination, the ramen house, I think it’s time to do a little sightseeing. You want to know what San Francisco looks like, right? It’s not as shiny and colorful as those postcards reveal but it should still look pretty interesting.

And here’s my favorite store to stop by on this block but we won’t go in and save it for another day as I’m actually in quite a hurry today. At least you know it’s here!

Union Square, everyone says to come here but there’s nothing here. It’s a tourist trap. There’s some free shows sometimes at night here like fire spinning or singing. I wouldn’t come just for those though, probably stop and watch if I wasn’t busy that day.

More streets, enjoy.

We’re not going here today, but this is one of my favorite places to eat. It’s sort of costly now for my wallet as I’m saving up for something special, but I used to come and eat here two to three times a day. Their price ranges from 20-30 dollars per person but they have a good variety of different Japanese foods and not just sushi. My favorite of theirs is the spicy tuna roll. The other place I recommend for sushi boat is Isobune.

HERE we are, my favorite place to eat for Ramen: Katana-Ya. They’re a tiny shop with a tiny menu but their foods pack a pack. They give you want you paid for even in a tourist area of the city. They get a line every night, sometimes I wonder why don’t won’t just expand! There’s not much room around here to expand though, but they’re just too delicious.

A little odd atmosphere and they were playing Spanish music today but that’s not weird at all…
Or. Reminding me of anything. Or should have anyone else here with ME. ANYWAY.
This is the menu, it’s all the usual stuff. Mostly ramen, rolls, donburi. My favorite things to order is the Deep Fried Chicken Rich Miso Ramen. They have the choice of having two favors for their ramen soup base, Shoyu, or Ramen. Light or Rich. I always get rich miso.

Their service is pretty fast. The food is ready in about ten minutes and the ramen ranges from nine to ten dollars. These are big, yummy bowls.

30 minutes later…

I didn’t finish it at the end but it was damn good. I blame these extra goodies we ordered. Alaska Rolls, they’re $1.00 a piece. Very pricey but the fish is to-die-for, fresh and meaty. Yum!

And that’s the adventure for today! I had to go home after to work. Did you like the little adventure to the Ramen shop? Maybe I’ll take you guys out to somewhere else next time! Remember to come back soon!
