Very Late: Early March 2009 Loot

March 6th, 2009 Loot

I found some pictures I meant to post up back in March but that was when this blog went on Hiatus. So let’s post them up now, it’ll still be fun to take a look at what I got approximately half a year ago. First up are these Code Geass Sexy C.C. figurines. I became a big fan for Code Geass as soon as I got done watching it so I knew I had to get these.

March 6th, 2009 Loot

I couldn’t decide which one of these two I wanted to I got both as they weren’t expensive at all! They’re UFO prizes by Banpresto, I think they were $20-25 dollars each? Quality isn’t bad for the price tag either, I’ll post pictures of them later.

Next up is Matsumoto. I usually don’t care about figurines like this because… Well, she’s not my type. My friend talked me into it though, looking at all the prototype pictures and all. Believe it or not, I’m sort of disappointed at the actual figurine. The face is off, mis-aligned, and the lipstick really throws it off from the original feel. The coloration and proportions (Yes.) are true to the anime, though. Here’s some pictures of the original:

I even got a new pencil sharpener in this shipment! I probably won’t use it though, I’d have too much fun with it. Teehee. ♥
Introducing, Kodomo no Jikan’s Play Stationary Kokonoe Rin.

What does it do exactly? Well, let’s go to the proto pics!

Sexy, no? Like I said, I probably would never use this. I don’t want dirty stains on her…
Sadly, the actually quality is nothing compared to the original. Colors are solid and the paint is of poor standards.

For those that saw my first picture and is a fan of Ikki Tousen… You -must- be eyeing this.
March 6th, 2009 Loot

One of the most beautiful figurine of Kanu ever made. It’s not slutty (Thank heavens). The price raped my wallet though.
I won’t bother opening this one so more pictures for your figurine enjoyment:

Aside from Ikki Tousen, if you’re a Final Fantasy fan- you should of spotted these on the left side.

Dissidia

I got two cases just in case. Knowing Square Enix is a prick, there’s no way they’ll put the entire selection into one case. I was right when I opened it too because I got four Tidus’ out of a six total box.
But in the end, I got all of them. They’re now distributing them in America now in individual packaging and not in blind boxes. I feel so robbed.

That’s all for the loot this time! I’m sure I’ll have more for you next time you drop by. See you soon!

Home of Miku Cafe, San Francisco. Japan is more than Nihonmachi.

I was out and about today so I figured, “Hey, I’m sure someone out there would be interested in where I’m located or at least know more about San Francisco, right?” (Or not.) But since I was out already, why not take some pictures for my blog since I’m waiting on the next figurine review anyway. Sorry for the low-quality pictures as this was all last minute and all I had was my cell phone.

Today, I ventured out to the heart of San Francisco. It’s Market street, right next to the famous City Hall. It was especially nice today as it wasn’t too cold and Sundays are Farmers’ Market day. Farmers’ Day is where all the fresh produce is, they’re not expensive either. I usually don’t go there but it’s fun when you’re bored and looking for something fresh to eat and not that gluteness junk we have around here like Burger King or Carl’s Jr.

Market2

There’s all little tents like this that lines up the entire plaza. It’s also right outside of my school so I can get some fresh fruits and vegetables on Wednesdays (They’re open Wednesday and Sundays, only). I never liked large fruits as they get messy on the go like Peaches or Apples but I can enjoy them if I’m just sitting down. I’m not a big fan of the Oranges and such either because again, they get all over the place and I grew up with them so I’m pretty much sick of it.

Market3

Anyways, even ranting from me. My favorite part is walking by the back with the live chickens and nearly dead fish. There’s a ton of seagulls that glares at the fish but can never get close. This always reminds me of home back in Hong Kong, these markets were no special thing and were in back alleyways or some hidden street. I’ll never forget going out with my mother to buy chicken and we’d just watch them snap the chicken’s neck apart.

Market1

I bought these today for my mother, they were a little expensive being $2.00 a pound but I thought they were worth it. I went around the time they were going to close so I heard a lot of shouting, “$1.00 per pound or $1.00 per bag!” But all the good stuff were gone or things I didn’t know how to cook. It was quite refreshing for me to go and see the market again, I haven’t visited it since… many a month ago. During the days with no market, the plaza is covered with crack-addicts and hobos.

Speaking of crack-addicts, this is my school. There’s a lot of amazing artists here, they all love to draw or design, something like that. We’ve got short, tall, white, black, addicts, otakus, just… all types of people. Nevertheless, I believe we’re a special, unique group of people and no other school can be quite like us.

School1

School2

Right outside of the school is the train Civic Center Muni train station. There’s always someone performing here for money. Usually of musical instruments but sometimes there are jugglers or even one that plays a broken violin with a chicken femur. I think he’s on something everyday. Our train stations are all underground and there are stops above ground. We also have a bus system also part of the Muni, but I rarely use it nowadays.

This is top view, looking into the station.

The train, and the people inside. Let’s take the train together to the next stop, which is only 3-4 blocks away but is covered with crack-addicts, so let’s use the train.
Station3

Station4

Here we are, at Powell Station. This is the heart of the shopping area in San Francisco. Well, this is where the tourists go anyway. I’ll be a tourist for all of you just for today and take pictures, laughing at myself the way I’d to the tourists. This picture right here is known as the turn around for the cable cars, it’s ran manually so the cable car can, well, turn around.

Streets4

On our way to my next destination, the ramen house, I think it’s time to do a little sightseeing. You want to know what San Francisco looks like, right? It’s not as shiny and colorful as those postcards reveal but it should still look pretty interesting.

Streets3

And here’s my favorite store to stop by on this block but we won’t go in and save it for another day as I’m actually in quite a hurry today. At least you know it’s here!

GameStop

Union Square, everyone says to come here but there’s nothing here. It’s a tourist trap. There’s some free shows sometimes at night here like fire spinning or singing. I wouldn’t come just for those though, probably stop and watch if I wasn’t busy that day.

More streets, enjoy.

We’re not going here today, but this is one of my favorite places to eat. It’s sort of costly now for my wallet as I’m saving up for something special, but I used to come and eat here two to three times a day. Their price ranges from 20-30 dollars per person but they have a good variety of different Japanese foods and not just sushi. My favorite of theirs is the spicy tuna roll. The other place I recommend for sushi boat is Isobune.

SushiBoat

HERE we are, my favorite place to eat for Ramen: Katana-Ya. They’re a tiny shop with a tiny menu but their foods pack a pack. They give you want you paid for even in a tourist area of the city. They get a line every night, sometimes I wonder why don’t won’t just expand! There’s not much room around here to expand though, but they’re just too delicious.

KatanaYa

KatanaYaINside

A little odd atmosphere and they were playing Spanish music today but that’s not weird at all…
Or. Reminding me of anything. Or should have anyone else here with ME. ANYWAY.

This is the menu, it’s all the usual stuff. Mostly ramen, rolls, donburi. My favorite things to order is the Deep Fried Chicken Rich Miso Ramen. They have the choice of having two favors for their ramen soup base, Shoyu, or Ramen. Light or Rich. I always get rich miso.

KatanaYaMenu

Their service is pretty fast. The food is ready in about ten minutes and the ramen ranges from nine to ten dollars. These are big, yummy bowls.

Katana-Ya

30 minutes later…

Katana-Ya

I didn’t finish it at the end but it was damn good. I blame these extra goodies we ordered. Alaska Rolls, they’re $1.00 a piece. Very pricey but the fish is to-die-for, fresh and meaty. Yum!

Katana-Ya

And that’s the adventure for today! I had to go home after to work. Did you like the little adventure to the Ramen shop? Maybe I’ll take you guys out to somewhere else next time! Remember to come back soon!

Star Wars: Light Saber Chopsticks

Kotobukiya’s latest and greatest invention…

Star Wars Light Saber chopsticks! How will I ever eat with a fork again?!
These amazing chopsticks are the most sophisticated pair of utensils an otaku will ever be hold in their hands (for now), coated with three different finishes, you’ll get the chance to eat like Yoda, Luke, or Vader at dinner time or Bentou time!

Yoda's

They’re so authentic, even yoda’s (my favorite) is 30mm shorter than the rest!
They will retail for 1,050 yen a pair and will be released in November!

May the rice be with you!

Can Can Canaan!

Being a sucker for all Type-Moon things, I feel almost spoiled with all the new Canaan figures coming out. Type-Moon makes the most original and epic stuff, their works are really for the more refined and serious otakus. Canaan was originally conceptualized for Nintendo’s Wii Visual Novel called 428: Fuusa Sareta Shibuya de (Rated a perfect score by famitsu!). Because of this, the original production name for the Canaan project was called 428 the animation. The series has a total of 13 episodes.

A little bit about the main character, Canaan. She’s an elite mercenary working in Shanghai. Her favorite weapon is a semi-automatic handgun, the Beretta Px4 Type G. Her eyes turn blood red when she uses her special ability, Synesthesia. Her voice is played by Miyuki Sawashiro, who also plays Velvet from Odin Sphere, Jun in Persona, Shinku in Rozen Maiden, and other various works.

The three I will be covering today will be the nendoroid, statue, and figma. Oh boy, only the greatest characters get to be made in all three! Canaan is no exception to this rule.

Canaan Nendoroid Canaan Nendoroid Canaan Nendoroid

Good Smile Company’s nendoroids are 90% adorable. The retail price for this one will be 3,333 yen and releases in December of this year. She comes with her favorite snack, sticks of sugar and her guns. as well as three signature expressions, her serious and quiet face, sweet and determined smile, and the scream of Battle!

Canaan Nendoroid Canaan Nendoroid

I don’t think she’s as well equipped as some previous nendoroids before but the red eyes sold me. They’re even more adorable than fierce in nendoroid-form, how can I resist?! She looks well and chubby, too.♥ She’s not anywhere in the figurine rankings in Japan though. Surprised? Just watch the next two figurines I’ll be introducing.

Max Factory Canaan Figma Max Factory Canaan Figma Max Factory Canaan Figma

Where there is a nendoroid, there is bound to be a Figma. Personally, after seeing the nendoroid and looking at the Figma, it seems very washed out and almost boring. I don’t particularly like the poses they chose for the prototype pictures either but Japan screams differently. Figmas are generally cheaper as well, that could be also why.

Max Factory Canaan Figma Max Factory Canaan Figma

Max Factory will be releasing this one slightly earlier, November, and for only 2,500 yen retail price. The accessories are the same as the nendoroid one but this one can attach fire for the gun as seen in the first picture. I will order one of this one as it’s not that appealing to me but the character itself rocks. She’ll find a new seat next to my alarm clock.

Last but not least (at all), is this beauty…
Good Smile Company Canaan Figure

Though it looks like an Alter work, this is actually a Good Smile Company figure. The usual 1/8 scale, releasing in January for a retail price of 8,800 yen. She stands approx. 200 mm tall. THIS is her roaring signature pose in all its stunning glory! Watch her dynamic body motion in the midst of a heat battle! This figurine doesn’t need much explanation to convince anyone to buy this beauty, the pictures do all the talking. Yes, I will be having this in my collection and I will be taking studio pictures with it.

Oh, I’m so spoiled.

E2946 Ori Salma E2946 Ori Salma

Did I mention they sculpt their own original figurines? Well, here’s one of them. This beauty is called Salma, a 1/6 scale high-ranked human warrior. I can’t wait till she’s ready to be made into production. I’ll be sure to buy one to paint. Price estimation will be approx. $50.00 USD. Pre-orders start late April or Early May!

E2946 Ori Salma

E2946 Ori Salma

E2046 Ori Blog: “The main idea of the sculpture is to capture the fearlessness and determination of Salma. Therefore we chose to depict a jumping pose in the middle of striking enemies. Yes as you all know dynamic designs and those with a great deal of action look particularly good. But at the same time securing its position and balancing the figure would be especially difficult. Right from an early stage we faced quite a number of challenges, many seemed unsolvable. Fortunately, with continuous effort and frequent communication with workshop, we finally overcome all technical hardships.”
